This beautiful piece of jade came across my desk recently. I wanted to keep it for a while and use it in a piece of bespoke jewelry, but I have too many projects and too little time.
Jade is considered lucky in many areas of the world. It may have a mohs hardness lower than that of diamond or sapphire, but it has a "toughness" that is virtually unmatched. This is due to its tight crystalline structure and means it is far less likely to crack, break or chip, Which is why it makes such an amazing carving material.
